C0deine Ph0sphate 60mg or Tr@madol 50mg?

Thing is, I'm used to codeine, never tried tramadol, but the tramadol is much cheaper, which is handy for me right now.

Are they equivalent in dosage/potency?

@xhE4Az

A quick search reveals that they are considered equipotent by weight(both reading as 1/10th the potency of m0rph1ne), but their activity does vary greatly and depending on the subject and their ability to metabolize c0deine into m0rph, and their ability to tolerate snris.

The reason that the c0deine is more expensive is that it is more difficult to find it without apap or other pain relievers.  To give you an answer as to whch would work better for you, I need to ask what your typical usage looks like.

Tr@m can be dangerous beyond(depending on where you look) 400-500 mg a day due to its snri activity.  This severely limits its efficacy for folks who need more than that in a day, and there are contraindications against mixing it with many other substances as well.

How much c0deine would you typically use in a day? I assume that you are not a “poor metabolizer”, ie. lacking the liver enzymes required to convert it to m0rph in vivo, as if you were(of which some places say up to 10% of the population are), you simply wouldn’t get much if any effects from it.  Have you had any experiences with snris?

The thing with tram is, many like it as it gives an energetic buzz from its snri activity, but that fact also makes withdrawal effects worse because it is not just a simple 0piate.

Hi @myalias thanks for the detailed response.

My usage is only MAX ~120mg of C0deine per day. I guess I'm a light user? I try to avoid more in order to reduce chance of addition.

Tram would probably be an ok option for you, but keep in mind what I mentioned in my previous post.  I also should ask what you are looking for, mild pain relief, recreation, antidepressant activity(opioids are a better antidepressant than any ssri hands down and they don’t make people shoot up their schools like ssris do).

And it is important that you look at your personal history and see if you have any snris in there.  My advice? Stick with c0deine if you know it works for you, but get a cheaper formulation with apap in it, as at the doses you take you won’t endanger your liver with a little bit of acetaminophen.  If you are trying to save money, it would be quite the shame if you tried out tram to find you don’t like it, but you couldn’t afford c0deine at the same time as a backup.  Wait until you can afford to have both at once if trying out something new.

I am interested in codeine compared to 100 mg. tramadol. 50mg. tramadol is too light for me. 100 mg. works good but it is hard on my kidneys. 100 mg. tramadol seems similar to the low dose oxycodone I get from a doctor. ,5-325mg. as to pain relief. The 325 must be for the acetamin. I am not sure what the 5 stands for since one of the posters had usage as high as 120mg. codeine. I asked a pharmacist as to how the strength comparing 60 mg. codeine to the standard oxycodone and he said the oxycodone would be stronger. Has anyone tried 60mg. codeine and 100 mg. tramadol?

I have 20 years experience in both. Message me and I will answer from my use of both plus dihydrocodeine and OxyContin..

tramadol and codeine are both similar and yet different. I tend to use trams during the early morning 150//200. The effects last longer than codeine. I use codeine in the evenings with diphenhydramine to potentate.

I have dozens of bottles of 300 mgs ganapentin,spouse rarely takes these. I read how a person should take any opiate FIRST,then take the gabapentin. Also, if taking gaba(just to abbreviate), they should take with a cola, wait an hour,take another etc etc..have you experience with this? I've kept them in case I have opioid withdrawl, along with saved clonidine. They sure help!!
